Angelo Gritti, by the way, who was unlucky to have a landout that cost him first place, is co-grandad with Leo of baby Benedetta, daughter of Riccardo Brigliadori who won silver in Lithuania's EGC 18 Metre Class.

As an experiment this year and in the hopes of encouraging Club Class pilots, there was a separate Club Class CIM planned for the end of July, advertised abroad too, but unfortunately, only two pilots, both Italian, presented themselves so it was cancelled. It is to be hoped that this initiative will be better supported next year.

The Standard Class was dominated by Austrians. The winner was Peter Hartmann (Discus), 5479pts; Heinz Haemmerle was 2nd, 5396pts, and Michael Rass 3rd, 5230pts, the last two flying LS-8s. Italians Giorgio Galetto (Ventus 2AX) won the 15 Metre Class, 6201pts, with Stefano Ghiorzo (Ventus 2A) 2nd, 5004pts. Dutchman Max Van Bree (LS-6A), 4935pts, was in 3rd place.

Alvaro de Orleans Borbon (Spain) headed the 18 Metre Class flying an ASH-26E with 5189pts. Italians Alberto Sironi (Ventus 2CXT), 4850pts, was 2nd with Corrado Costa (LS-8-18), 4688pts, 3rd. The Open Class went to Italian Mantica Ballarati (Eta), 5195pts. Karl Rabeder (Nimbus 4DM) from Austria was 2nd with 5145pts and Roberto Reginaldi (ASH-25/27) 3rd with 4647pts.

Giorgio Galetto stayed on for the Citta di Rieti Cup and won that too in a mixed handicapped Class.
